How to create your first TutnIQ course - TutnIQ
Table of contents X
  • Adding content: Creating sections and adding text blocks

In this section we will learn how to divide our course into sections, and how to add text blocks to our course.

  • Once you have set up your course or tutorial you can start adding content.

    Section headers and section breaks

You can divide your course or tutorial into sections to organize content and activities. Each section will appear as a separate page. Sections are created by adding a section header or section break to each section. A section header can have a title (for example: "Step 1: Dig the hole"), and an introduction. The section header and introduction are used to create the course table of contents.

To add a section header or section break in the course builder:

    1. Click the "Add content" link.
    2. Select the "Add section header / break" option from the drop-down menu.
    3. All information is optional. The title and introduction will appear at the beginning of the section if provided.
    4. The section header / break will appear at the end of the course and can be dragged and dropped into the correct position.

    Jump codes

    • You can set a jump code for any section.
    • The jump code should be unique in the context of the course.
    • Jump codes are similar to short URLS. At TutnIQ jump codes allow us to link to a specific section of the course without having to worry about sequencing changes.
    • The jump code for this section is "intro" which when written as an url is http://www.tutniq.com/jump/80/intro (i.e. http://www.tutniq.com/jump/{course_id}/{jump code} ).
    • When using Markdown at TutnIQ, you can use the 'jump' short code to refer to a jump code: [jump course='80' section='intro']Some text goes here[/jump].

    Text blocks

The bulk of your course or tutorial is likely to be in the form of text. To add a text block in the course builder:

    1. Click the "Add content" link.
    2. Select the "Add text block" option from the drop-down menu.
    3. Add your text. If the textarea is too small, double-click it to open a larger editing window.
    4. Text blocks can be formatted using Markdown syntax. We have a detailed tutorial explaining how Markdown works at TutnIQ.
    5. Text blocks can be enhanced with shortcodes. See our tutorial explaining how shortcodes work at TutnIQ.
    6. The text block will appear at the end of the course and can be dragged and dropped into the correct position.
