What inspired the name 'TutnIQ'?
The ‘tut’ part of TutnIQ comes from the word ‘tutorial'. Wikipedia says that a tutorial is a:
... method of transferring knowledge and may be used as a part of a learning process. More interactive and specific than a book or a lecture; a tutorial seeks to teach by example and supply the information to complete a certain task.
We included the ‘IQ’ in the TutnIQ name because we were trying to be clever.
TutnIQ is pronounced like Sputnik (but with a T). Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite launched by man and ushered in the modern communication age (and eventually the Internet). We have paid homage to Sputnik by dotting the ‘i’ in the TutnIQ logo with a small satellite.
Is there a copyright problem with embedded content?
We use publicly available content in accordance with the terms for use provided by the embed sources we support. The embedded content displayed has been made public by the original creators, who typically consent to embedding of the their content when they upload it to the respective service. We automatically maintain attribution links to the original source.
In the case of Flickr, our software will only allow embedding of images which are suitably licensed.
What happens if someone deletes something I have embedded?
The embedded content will no longer be available! This is one of the factors to consider before embedding another creators content.
Can I upload my own photos to TutnIQ?
No. We don't store any photos (other than course logo’s). You could create a Flickr account to hold photos for your TutnIQ courses.
How do I add a course logo?
Open the 'Course Profile' tab in the course builder. The option to upload a course logo will be the last option on the page. We use fairly sophisticated logo cropping browser functionality, so you need to use a modern, fully featured web browser to enjoy this functionality.
How do I preview a course while it is under construction?
To preview a course before it is activated (i.e. published) click the 'Preview course / FAQ / glossary' link on the right side of the course builder.
Preview pages are only visible to the course owner or site administrators, so do not share the link - it will not work!
Why do my changes not appear immediately?
We cache aggressively. It may take up to 2 hours for your changes to propagate to our edge servers.
Why does feature 'X' not work with my browser?
If you are not using an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Firefox or Opera) it is possible that your browser is not up to the task!
If you are using an obsolete browser please do the internet a favor and upgrade! Please note that we do not have the resources to support obsolete browsers.
If the bug persists after you have upgraded your browser please report it to us.
Can I create a course using my phone or tablet?
Can you? Probably not. Mobile browsers are terrible. We have a dual-pronged strategy for mobile:
- Phones: We will wait for browsers to catch up to their desktop cousins.
- Tablets: We will make minor tweaks until the course builder works on modern, fully featured tablet browsers.
Our intention is that all TutnIQ content should be viewable on modern mobile devices, but not necessarily 'buildable'.
